Patty Quesenberry is a Floyd County native who is a very active member of the community. She is a lifetime member of the Floyd County Rescue Squad, and for the past twenty-five years she has an extensive record as a volunteer. She is a parent volunteer with her local elementary school, where she works with the PTA and the 4-H club. She also volunteers with the Floyd County Humane Society, and the local food bank called Plenty. Quesenberry graduated from Redford College in 1997, before going on to work as an emergency service worker. Through this experience, she saw firsthand how families struggle to survive in Southwest Virginia.
Quesenberry wants better housing and infrastructure for Virginia residents as well. She recognizes that affordable housing is a necessity for everyone, and wants to uplift the needs of her region, which doesn’t have enough units available, especially for those with poor credit. She also wants to improve the quality of the roads and bridges of the region so that people can safely travel.
Quesenberry has said that there are not enough resources in the region to combat the substance abuse epidemic that plagues the region. The number of fatal overdoses and residents with symptoms of depression and anxiety have increased greatly over the last few years, and she believes that an increase in approved subscribers has not helped the situation. She wants more counseling, treatment centers, and resources to combat the epidemic.
Quesenberry also wants individuals to have access to care for their personal well-being, including the right to abortion. She believes that the overturning of Roe v. Wade suggests that from the moment of fertilization, a pregnant person has no rights to speak of, and a state can force that person to bring a pregnancy to term even at the steepest personal and familial costs.
Wren Williams is a Republican, and he has served as Delegate for the 9th district since 2022. He serves on the Courts, Privileges and Elections, and Public Safety Committees. Due to redistricting, Williams is now running to represent the 47th district. Williams supported former President Trump and the RNC to perpetuate the Big Lie conspiracy. Williams is anti- abortion, and he supports School Choice. He also believes in protecting election integrity, the main pillar of the Big Lie conspiracy.
Jacob Frogel is the independent candidate for this race. He has described himself as a staunch anti-corporation candidate. He works as a stock day trader. Little information could be found on his stances on progressive issues.
While Queesenberry does support some progressive values, her views stated on her campaign site do not fully align with progressive values, as corporations need to be held accountable for their action to our environment.
